Guard Fit Challenge – Video: Inside the Exercise – Triceps Extension

Three athletes are shown, one at a time, doing triceps extensions in a weight room. An intro screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Triceps Extension” appears. SGT Courtney Zablocki, one of the athletes, begins a description of the exercise.

Courtney: This is the tricep extension. It helps strengthen the triceps, which is an important muscle when completing push-ups.

The camera cuts to SGT Vikram Mittal performing the triceps extension using three different grips, one after another.

Courtney: There are different grips that you can use: the rope, the straight bar, or the T.

The camera then cuts to Courtney performing the triceps extension using the rope grip.

Courtney: For a tricep extension, what you’ll want to do is have your feet shoulder-width apart, grip on the rope, and you’ll want to have your elbows in tight, close to your body. And just extend your arms, but don’t lock them out. You want to have enough weight to do 8 to 12 reps.

The camera cuts to another one of the athletes, SGT Jeremy White, performing the triceps extension using a straight bar grip.

Jeremy: Don’t do any bending, forward or backward. Bring the weight down to about mid-level or your chest, keep your elbows tucked in close to your side, and just bring it down, nice and slow controlled movements.

The camera cuts to Vikram, who continues to perform triceps extensions using a straight bar grip until the final screen of the video. The final screen contains the words “Inside the Exercise: Triceps Extension.”
