Guard Fit Challenge – Video: Inside the Exercise—Overhead Press

Three athletes are shown, one at a time, performing the overhead press exercise in a weight room. All are using free weights and are performing the exercise with a spotter and while seated on a bench with catch bars in order to further reduce the risk of injury. An intro screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Overhead Press” appears, and then SGT Courtney Zablocki—one of the athletes—begins a description of the exercise.

Courtney: The overhead press works your shoulder muscles. To do this, you want to sit down on the bench with the bar in front of you. You want to put your hands facing away from you and have your feet flat on the floor.

The video shifts to show Courtney performing overhead presses while being spotted by SPC Tim Bailey.

Tim: And you’re going to need a spotter on this. So one-two-three…now as you extend, make sure you lock your elbows out and don’t bounce the weight on your chest and do as many reps as you can correctly.

The video shifts again to show SGT Vikram Mittal performing the exercise as Courtney spots.

Courtney: Make sure you have your wrists a little bit straighter too, because  you can hurt your wrists if you have them bent.

As Courtney continues explaining proper form, the video shifts to Jeremy spotting Tim. Tim performs the overhead press until the video fades. The final screen contains the words “Inside the Exercise: Overhead Press.”
