Guard Fit Challenge – Video: Inside the Exercise – Leg Press
Three athletes, SGT Courtney Zablocki, SGT Ryan McDonald and SPC Tim Bailey, are show, one at a time, performing the leg press exercise in a weight room. Each is using a weight machine designed for the exercise. An intro screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Leg Press” appears, and then Courtney begins a description and demonstration of the exercise.
Courtney: This is the leg press machine. You’ll be strengthening your gluteal muscles and also your leg muscles. What you’ll want to do to get started is first grip the handles by your sides, put your feet up at a 90-degree angle. To press off, you want to use your heels and push off your heels and not your toes. You want to extend your legs so your knees are straight but not locked out.”
The video shows Tim performing the leg press, for a number of repetitions, and then Ryan is shown. He continues to demonstrate the exercise and extends the description.
Ryan: Press evenly and push away from the pad. Come into a full extension. Now it’s important when you’re coming back down, that you pay attention to your knee position. This is going to give you proper exercise, but also is going to avoid injury. I don’t want to bow my knees in and I don’t want to let them slide out. It’s a nice fluid movement right over the toes.
The video cuts again to Courtney on the leg press machine.
Courtney: You want to put enough weight on the machine so you can do 8 to 12 reps.
The camera cuts from Courtney to Tim performing the exercise.
Ryan: If you find yourself shaking and not able to stabilize your knees, remove some weight so you can do the proper exercise.
Tim is shown performing additional repetitions of the leg press until the final screen, which says “Inside the Exercise Leg Press,” is shown and the video ends.
