Guard Fit Challenge – Video: Inside the Exercise—Leg Extension

Three athletes are shown, one at a time, performing leg extensions in a weight room. All are seated on weight machine. An intro screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Leg Extension” appears, and then SPC Tim Bailey—one of the athletes—begins a description of the exercise.

Tim: This exercise is called the leg extension. The main purpose for the exercise is to tone your quadriceps, which is the upper muscle in your thigh.

As Tim continues to explain the exercise, the video shifts to SGT Courtney Zablocki demonstrating the exercise. The video then shifts to show SGT Vikram Mittal, who continues the explanation.

Vikram: Your quadriceps muscles are important for running, especially when you are running uphill and for rucking with heavy loads.

The video shifts to Tim, who continues the explanation and demonstrates the exercise.

Tim: The first thing you want to do when you get on this machine is make sure you adjust it to …what fits you best. And the second thing you want to do is place your legs behind this padded lever. The next thing you want to do is adjust the weight so you can do reps, between 8 to 12 reps.  Once you put your legs behind the padded lever, you stretch your legs out to full extension, very slowly. And you want to come down very slowly also, so you can get the full benefit of the exercise.

The video shifts to show Courtney, who continues performing the exercise until the video fades. The final screen contains the words “Inside the Exercise: Leg Extension.”
