Guard Fit Challenge – Video: Inside the Exercise—Leg Extension Alternate
Three athletes are shown, one at a time, performing leg extensions in a weight room. All are seated on an exercise mat with an exercise band attached to a bench. An intro screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Leg Extension Alternate” appears, and then SPC Tim Bailey—one of the athletes—begins a description of the exercise.
Tim: This exercise is called the alternate leg extension. The main purpose for this exercise is to tone your quadriceps and it also stretches your hamstrings.
As Tim continues to explain the exercise, the video shifts to SGT Courtney Zablocki demonstrating the exercise. The video then shifts to show SGT Vikram Mittal, who continues the explanation and demonstrates the exercise.
Vikram: All you need is an exercise band, a post to tie the exercise band to, and your leg. And basically you tie the exercise band to a post, tie the other end around your foot, lay down flat on your back, support the back of your knee with your hands, interlock behind the knee, held at a 90-degree angle, extend your leg fully, and turn back to the starting position.
The video shifts to show Tim demonstrating the exercise.
Vikram: You will repeat this 8 to 12 times and then switch over to the other leg.
The video shifts back to Vikram, who continues the explanation.
Vikram: If you feel that the exercise isn’t giving you enough of a workout, you can shorten the distance between your foot and the post or shorten the band distance between your foot and the post and that should increase the tension and give you a better workout.
The video shifts to show Courtney, who continues performing the exercise until the video fades. The final screen contains the words “Inside the Exercise: Leg Extension Alternate.”
