Guard Fit Challenge – Video: Inside the Exercise - Lat Pull Up
Three athletes, SGT Jeremy White, SGT Courtney Zablocki, and SPC Tim Bailey, are shown performing the lat pull up exercise on a lat pull-up station. A graphic transition is made to an introduction screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Lat Pull Up.”
After a quick transition, the video shows SGT Jeremy White in a gym speaking to the camera.
Jeremy: This exercise is called the lat pull-up. Again, it’s working the muscles of the back, working a little bit of the biceps as well.
The video cuts to Tim speaking to the camera. The camera focuses in on Tim placing his hands on the bars of the lat pull-up station. Tim begins to demonstrate a lat pull-up.
Tim: When you get up under the bar, you want to make sure you’re in a comfortable position. Your hands should be facing your body. Make sure you have a good strong grip.
The video makes a quick transition to Courtney demonstrating the lat pull-up exercise.
Tim: Then you bend your arms and make sure your chin clears the bar. You want to do about 8 to 12 reps of this.
The video cuts back to Jeremy speaking directly to the camera.
Jeremy: You don’t want any jerking motion. You want to keep as still as possible…

Jeremy: …focusing on the muscles that are going to be utilized. You just want to focus on the lats.
The video transitions to Tim standing in front of the lat pull-up station and speaking directly to the camera.
Tim: And if you are a tall person, it’s very important that you bend your knees while you’re doing this exercise so your feet won’t be hitting the ground and it gives you a chance to complete your whole exercise. You see how I’m bending my knees?
Tim demonstrates the lat pull-up. The camera focuses on Tim’s bent knees and arms as he conducts the exercise.
