Guard Fit Challenge - Video: Inside the Exercise - Bench Press Alternate

Three athletes, SGT Jeremy White, SGT Ryan McDonald, and SGT Courtney Zablocki, are all shown performing an alternate exercise to the bench press using a resistance band. A graphic transition is made to an introduction screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Bench Press Alternate.”

After a quick transition, Courtney is showing in a gym setting sitting on a mat with her legs stretched out in front of her. She is holding a resistance band in both hands.

Courtney: This is a variation to the bench press.

The camera cuts to show Courtney’s upper body from a slightly overhead position.

Courtney: What you want to do is have a resistance band…

The camera cuts back to showing Courtney from the side.

Courtney:…put it around your shoulder blades and then lay back. Put your knees up so you can support your back and then you’ll just press up to extend your elbows straight and back down.

The camera holds on Courtney as she performs a few repetitions of the exercise. Then after a quick transition the camera shows Jeremy performing the exercise, first from the front with the camera slightly overhead, and then from the side.

After a quick transition, Ryan is shown from the side seated on the mat.

Ryan: So a lot of people think that you can’t get a workout unless you’re in the gym. What I like to do when I’m traveling on the road…

The camera shifts to show Ryan from the front and slightly overhead.

Ryan:…is to carry one of these resistance bands so I can continue to get a good workout.


The camera shifts to show Ryan from the side seated on the mat.

Ryan: What I do is wrap this around to get good tension on the band, I’ll just place it behind my shoulders, lie flat on my back and I’ll keep my elbows out…


The camera shifts to show Ryan from the front and slightly overhead.

Ryan:…and extend my arms forward and back down…

The camera shifts to show Ryan from the side lying on the mat performing the exercise.

Ryan:…and full extension.

After a quick transition, Jeremy is shown from the front and slightly overhead performing the exercise. The camera shifts to show Jeremy from the side performing the exercise. The video concludes as a graphic transition is made on the screen that says “Inside the Exercise: Bench Press Alternate.”
